Stress less and heal more with the 5 best acupuncture in Canberra

Professional qualification and experience: I looked for practitioners registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia who have significant training in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Treatment approach and specialties: I prioritised clinics offering both general acupuncture and targeted services for specific needs like fertility, chronic pain, and stress relief.

Client feedback and reputation: I read client testimonials and reviews, focusing on those with consistently positive ratings and repeat visitors.

Clinic environment and accessibility: I considered clinics with a calm and inviting environment that maintain a professional yet relaxing setting with convenient booking.

Value for money: I gave preference to those that are transparent with pricing and deliver high-quality service for the cost.

I’ve always been fascinated by how some healing practices remain relevant even after thousands of years. Acupuncture is one of those — a therapy that blends ancient wisdom with modern wellness.

Here in Canberra, it’s become a go-to for many people, not only for pain relief but also for stress reduction, fertility support, and general well-being.

I haven’t personally tried every acupuncture clinic in the city (needles and I are still on cautious terms), but I’ve spent hours doing my homework. I’ve reviewed clinic websites, read through dozens of online reviews, and compared what locals consistently praise.

The clinics I’ve listed here aren’t just well-rated; they stand out for their professional expertise, approach to treatment, and the overall experience they offer.

How much does acupuncture cost in Canberra?

Acupuncture sessions typically range from $70 to $120, depending on the practitioner’s experience and the length of the session. The initial consultation often costs a little more because it includes a detailed health assessment and a customised treatment plan.

Canberra Classic Chinese Medicine Centre is a long-established clinic that offers a comprehensive approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with acupuncture as one of its core services.

The team is highly experienced in treating a wide range of concerns, from chronic back pain and migraine to digestive issues, and they’re known for taking time to tailor each treatment plan to the individual.

Many clients praise the effective pain relief they experience after just a few sessions, as well as the practitioners’ caring and attentive manner. Their pricing is also competitive given the level of expertise of their practitioners.

That said, their early closing hours make it tricky for anyone needing after-work appointments, and the clinic’s decor leans more towards functional than luxurious. Still, the skill and experience on offer here outweigh the minor drawbacks.

Pros

  • Highly experienced and skilled practitioners
  • Offers herbal medicine
  • Provides other TCM therapies alongside acupuncture

Cons

  • Early closing hours limit after-work availability
  • Decor is more functional than spa-like

Incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and thorough

“I came to the clinic with intense glute and sciatica pain, and I’m so glad I did. Dr Ricky and Linda were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and thorough. They took the time to understand my symptoms and designed a treatment plan that worked for me. After just 3 sessions, my pain has reduced by about 90%! I’m really impressed with their care and would highly recommend this clinic to anyone dealing with similar issues.”

Highly recommended

“I’ve been undergoing treatment at this center for over two months to address my PCOS issue, and it’s been incredibly helpful in alleviating my pelvic pain and improving my overall health! Dr. Ricky has been extremely kind, and my condition has shown significant improvement! I highly recommend it to all women who are going through similar health issues and haven’t found a solution with other treatments.”

Capital Health Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine takes a personalised, professional approach to acupuncture. Operated strictly by appointment, the clinic ensures that each patient gets unhurried, focused care.

The practitioners here have trained in both China and Australia, giving them a depth of knowledge in TCM that blends traditional techniques with modern healthcare insights.

Their quiet, private setting is perfect if you value discretion and a calm atmosphere during treatments. However, because there are no walk-in appointments, you’ll need to plan ahead, and the city centre parking can be challenging.

Even so, patients say that the quality of care and the thoroughness of the consultations make the extra planning worth it.

Pros

  • Bilingual team
  • Extensive international training
  • Thorough consultations
  • Tailored treatment plans

Cons

  • No walk-in availability
  • Parking can be difficult in the city centre

Professional and attentive

“I highly recommend Chinese medicine, acupuncture (针灸), and moxibustion (艾灸) for anyone dealing with persistent health issues. I had a serious coughing problem, and after starting treatment, I experienced significant relief. The combination of acupuncture and moxibustion helped reduce my symptoms and treated the underlying causes. The practitioners were professional and attentive, and I felt well taken care of. These therapies truly made a difference in my recovery.”

“There’s a reason this place has all the 5-star reviews! My first visit today and I was very impressed. Lovely people, a soothing, serene space, and really good services. I found Live Well Holistic Wellness Centre particularly appealing for its whole-body approach to wellness. They don’t just offer acupuncture — they combine it with naturopathy, massage, and nutritional advice.

Their clinic feels more like a retreat than a medical space, with a calming, spa-like atmosphere that many clients say puts them at ease from the moment they walk in.

The main downside is cost; it’s pricier than standalone acupuncture clinics. Plus, their Saturday hours are short, which could be limiting if you can’t make weekday appointments.

But if you’re after an experience that’s as much about relaxation as it is about treatment, this is a solid pick.

Pros

  • Modern, beautifully designed clinic environment
  • Comprehensive wellness services

Cons

  • Higher pricing compared to other  clinics
  • Limited Saturday hours

Friendly, professional, and incredibly supportive

“I had a great experience with Tanya during my acupuncture appointment. She was friendly, professional, and incredibly supportive. Tanya asked thoughtful, relevant questions and made me feel genuinely cared for throughout the session. Her compassionate and caring manner made the whole experience very pleasant. I really appreciated her approach and look forward to continuing the treatment.”

Professional and lovely

“The staff are professional and lovely. The receptionists are professional and really make you feel welcome. I walked out feeling like I was walking on a cloud.”

The Chinese Treatment Centre has been a staple in Canberra for over 25 years. Their focus is on acupuncture, herbal medicine, and remedial massage, with many clients turning to them for pain, women’s health, and stress-related conditions.

The reviews I read consistently mention how approachable the practitioners are and how much time they spend explaining treatments. Their weekday hours are a big plus if you have a busy schedule.

On the flip side, the interior is a bit more traditional and less polished compared to modern wellness spaces, and the clinic can get busy, so booking ahead is wise.

Still, the warmth of their service and the experience they bring seem to outweigh those minor drawbacks.

Pros

  • Decades of experience in TCM and acupuncture
  • Extended weekday hours

Cons

  • Interior could use a refresh
  • Can be busy, so booking ahead is recommended

Treatment does work

“I received Acupuncture treatments twice in the span of two weeks (Dr Charles and Dr Sali), for treating a 4-year-old overextended elbow injury. I requested no herbs and they were accommodating. It’s been about two weeks now since the last visit, and the pain has completely gone, and the elbow feels back at full strength. So the treatment does work for these types of injuries. In all, I highly recommend you to give acupuncture a chance, like I did.  I have to admit it does promote bodily healing as my elbow pain was quite pronounced before and could not have gotten better without the treatment. To the doctors, thank you!”

– Theo Darmawan, Google Review

I was very well looked after

“Ming and her team have been helping me over the years to recover and heal from a range of injuries caused by my work, which is strenuous and repetitive. I can honestly say that each time I have had treatment with Ming, I have been able to recover quicker than any physiotherapy or chiropractic session that I previously used to use for my injuries. In times when I have been sick and I have come in for a health treatment, I was very well looked after and able to make an appointment easily.”

While researching, the Canberra Acupuncture and Cosmetic Acupuncture Clinic stood out for offering both therapeutic and cosmetic acupuncture. Jing Zheng, the lead practitioner, is praised for her gentle touch and personalised care.

Clients come here not only for relief from pain and stress but also for treatments aimed at improving skin tone and reducing fine lines. Many report feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated after their sessions.

Cosmetic acupuncture is naturally more expensive than standard treatments, and the clinic doesn’t offer evening hours, which might be inconvenient for some.

But the consistently positive reviews and the combination of health and beauty benefits make this a unique option in Canberra.

Pros

  • Skilled in both cosmetic and traditional acupuncture
  • Gentle, personalised care

Cons

  • No evening appointment options
  • No broader TCM services

Kind and compassionate

“After years of trigeminal neuralgia pain I have had two treatments with Canberra acupuncture. I am pain-free for the first time in 3 years! I cannot be more grateful for their care, kindness and compassion! Thank you so much!”

– Carlie Kelly, Google Review

Strongly recommended

“Strongly recommend. Was my first ever acupuncture treatment at 55 y/o and my experience was 10/10. Had really bad back and back spasm from a sporting injury and Jing got me in quick and relieved pain within minutes, and pain was down  80% in the  next 24 hours. Overall, expect 3-4 visits but very impressed. Jing also released a nerve that had stopped me from moving my leg in a vertical direction for 12 YEARS! Just one well-placed needle made the nerve work again. I could not believe it! So highly recommend, and Jing is clear and concise with all aspects of treatment.”
