The 5 best dermatologists in Canberra locals swear by for healthier skin

Qualification and expertise: I checked that every dermatologist is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a variety of skin conditions.

Range of services: I looked for clinics offering both medical dermatology (e.g., skin cancer checks, acne management, eczema treatment) and cosmetic dermatology (e.g., injectables, laser therapy).

Specialisation: I included clinics with specialised expertise in areas like pediatric dermatology, skin cancer surgery, or advanced aesthetic treatments.

Patient experience: I combed through online reviews to gauge how patients felt about their experience, focusing on how approachable the doctors were, how well treatment options were explained, and how effective the care was.

Accessibility and comfort: I considered location, appointment availability, and the overall atmosphere of the clinic.

Skin issues sneak in slowly, like the fine lines that seem to appear overnight, and sometimes urgently, like the mole you suddenly realise looks… different.

When I began looking into dermatologists, I wanted more than just a list of names. I wanted to know which clinics are trusted by locals, which ones offer comprehensive care, and which ones have doctors who truly listen.

So I dug through the internet to find who’s who.

Whether you’re like me, who just wants to be sure and refresh your appearance, or you’re seeking help with a persistent skin condition or a suspicious spot, these are the clinics worth considering.

How much does a dermatologist cost in Canberra?

Dermatology consultations generally cost between $200 and $350 for an initial visit, depending on the clinic and doctor’s experience, while follow-up visits often range from $120 to $200. Medicare rebates are available for eligible medical consultations, and additional fees may apply for specific procedures or treatments.

Helpful, empathetic, and informative

“Dr Drummond provided care for our young baby  (now 2 years old) for several months. As the matter was time sensitive, Dr Drummond saw us urgently for an appointment and commenced treatment promptly. She provided her professional opinion and treatment in a helpful, empathetic and informative way and answered any questions or concerns we have had. She regularly followed up to check on our daughter’s progress and our baby responded really well to the treatment and advice provided by Dr Drummond. She made us feel very at ease with our daughter’s treatment plan. The receptionists have also been very helpful. We are very grateful for Dr Drummond and the care we received. I highly recommend Dr Drummond’s practice.”

I cannot recommend them highly enough

“I had such a wonderful experience. Dr J is super focused on education and working with you to achieve the results you’re after and giving you options to decide the best method for you. I had a bit of a mix up with the postage of my treatment cream and the Practice Manager, Peter, was very helpful and had a second item shipped to me within a few days. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”

– Jemma Kilpatrick, Google Review

Very reasonable price and upfront

“I saw Dr Jeremy in Campbell for anti-wrinkle injections. Dr Jeremy took his time to listen to my preferences, do a thorough consult and provide helpful advice. I was encouraged to think about my options and not rush into anything. He was up front about the fees from the outset and the price I paid was very reasonable. He booked me in for a review (at no extra cost) in a fortnight and again was generous with his time to check the outcomes of his work. I’m really happy with the outcome- it’s always nerve wracking waiting to see the full effect but everything went to plan and I’ve got just the right amount of movement in my face without the lines! (Nothing worse than being totally frozen!). I will definitely be back to see Dr Jeremy.”
